Skiing, Sledding and Horses

So the past few weekends have been really great. The work weeks are not that much fun, but knowing I have something fun to look forward to makes all the difference.

Last Saturday, Aggie went sled riding with some of her girlfriends, and I went skiing with some of my boyfriends (...err...some of the the guys). Ag went to Wengen, which is a very small, car free town in the mountains. If you drive there, you have to leave your car at the bottom of the mountain and then take a cog rail up to the town. Then, to get to the sled trails and ski slopes, you take a gondola up even further. She said sledding was awesome and rather challenging. You use the old-fashioned wooden sleds and, apparently, they can get movin'! The day was a bit cloudy so the views were limited on top of the mountains, but it was still a fun time. Check out the pics here.

While Aggie was owning the trails, I was taking on the slopes. I was in Davos, Switzerland with Dave, Ali and Kevin. Okay, all three of them are really good, and Kevin is outstanding! He grew up in Park City, Utah and has friends who competed in the Winter Olypics (in skiing events). Long story short, we did some crazy routes that day, and I literally ran into a tree 2 times! All I kept thinking about was Aggie telling me to not do anything stupid....and of course I did! Kevin did get some good video of me doing some good off piste skiing and then taking a big old yardsale tumble...hopefully I'll get that footage from him soon and get it up on the blog.

This past weekend (Feb 8-10th) we went to St. Moritz, Switzerland. Ag organized the whole weekend for us and all our friends (12+ people). She got us booked into all the rooms, organized dinners and just did an overall fantastic job. St. Moritz is considered the ritzest ski town in Switzerland, and let's just say that you can tell there's lots of $$$ walking around that place. It's very cosmopolitan and fashionable, and when people wear fur coats like we in the States wear gym shoes (meaning everyone has them), you know you are with the high rollers! Plus, the amount of matching Prada, D&G and Chanel ski outfits the girls were wearing on the slopes was ridiculous. Everyone just looked good and "expensive".

Anyway, the weekend really started for us on Thursday night. Our good friends from London, Darren and Nicole, came to visit. I picked them up from the airport around 10:30pm. We chatted for a bit that evening over a few snacks and brews. Then on Friday, they toured around Zurich while Ag and I worked. We all met up at the apartment around 4pm and headed to the train station by 5pm. We caught our 5:37pm train to St. Moritz, checked into our hotel and were in a pizzeria enjoying some pasta and pizza by 10-11pm (St. Moritz is near Italy, so you can count on some good Italian food there).

The rest of our group got in at random times, but everyone was drinking wine and eatting pizzas with us by 11pm or so. After we closed down the pizza joint, we headed to a bar that was playing live music which was pretty fun.

The next day we all met downstairs for breakfast and then went our seperate ways. Aggie, Darren and Nicole weren't going to ski, but they were going to go with us to the top of the mountain to get some good pics and such. The rest of the day, I went skiing and the three of them toured the town and went hiking/walking in the forest. The skiing for me was pretty fun and the "after party" at the bar was great! (After a long day of skiing, the best part is just chilling at an outdoor bar on the mountain, drinking a few cold ones).

That evening all of us went to a really nice dinner in town. Afterwards we headed back to the same bar we were at the night before, as the same live music was playing. You can check out all the pics here. It was a ton of fun, but when midnight struck, we were all ready to call it a night....

And it's a good thing we did! We got a random wake up call around 8:20am from the hotel manager saying we all had to be out of our rooms. Actually, it was the people who were supposed to "take over" our rooms when we left who came knocking on our door first. Long story short, the hotel had a group of 70+ people who had been traveling all night that had just arrived. They wanted to get the rooms cleaned up so these people could get in. The whole ordeal was a bit crazy, but it worked out fine, and now we just have funny memories from it.

After we got herded out of our rooms, all of us went down to breakfast. We were just laughing at this point about everything that was going on! Once breakfast was finished, we jumped on the bus and headed to the train station to store our luggage. Then, we went to to White Turf horse races.

The White Turf is an International horse race and you can read all about it here. The race and the whole event actually takes place on the frozen lake in the middle of the city, which is just crazy! The weather was beautiful (apparently it's sunny 322 days of the year in St. Moritz), and we were with great company. After some drinks, food, a bit of gambling and our introduction to "skijoring" (horses pull guys/gals on skis behind them!), we headed home and got back around 7pm tonight. You can check out our White Turf pictures here.

And here is a video of skijoring

As I said before, props to Aggie for an outstanding job with the planning!

As for the rest of February, I'm heading to London this week for work. We might go skiing next weekend but only time will tell. Other than that, I got nothin'! Also, happy 30th birthday to our friends, Trish Dilg, Joelle Brower, and Renners! Hope youz all celebrated turning 30 in style!!
